Maxol Direct History
In October 2000 Maxol acquired a controlling interest in the long established family run home heating oil business – Connors Fuels. The acquisition was testimony to the Maxol Group’s commitment to expanding the direct home heating oil side of its business throughout Northern Ireland while ensuring the high standard of service people expect from Maxol is maintained.
Connors Fuels was successfully re-branded as Maxol Direct NI Limited and in spring 2001 the local Ballymena distributor Central Fuels also joined the group.
Chief Executive of the Maxol Group, Tom Noonan commented: “This is the second important acquisition that we have undertaken in recent days and further reinforces the commitment of the Maxol Group to expand into the home heating oil business and offer the best service in the industry. We are delighted to acquire this business and the Maxol Direct management team will play an important role in further developing the new venture.”
A new North West Depot base was established in 2001 at the Shell Oil Terminal, Bay Road, Londonderry/Derry. Encouraged by the steady sales growth in the North West Maxol was delighted to acquire the interests of local Claudy based distributor, Ronald Lyttle Fuels, in 2005.
Further strategic expansion took place in 2001 with the addition of Littles Fuels, Enniskillen providing the Group with an Oil Depot in the heart of County Fermanagh. With this strong Depot base further local acquisitions saw the successful addition of Roslea Oil, Roslea, in 2005 & then McCarron Fuels, Dromore, County Tyrone, in 2007.
In Belfast, the Maxol Direct expansion continued with the addition of local west Belfast distributor Gavan Fuels joining the Group in 2007. Most recently, in February 2008 the Maxol Direct Group acquired the interests of Scott’s Fuels (Belfast) operations.
