Fuel Allowance Deadline

The deadline for claiming winter fuel payment is approaching. Anyone born on, or before July 1950 - and who has not received the payment before - will have to check their eligibility before September 24.

Social Development Minister Alex Attwood said that many people may not realise they are entitled to the money because they are still working. Most people will receive it automatically if they already receive a state pension or some other benefits.

Winter Fuel Payment can provide up to an additional £250 for home heating - £400 for people over 80.
